Broadway Workshop is an eight-week Saturday morning or afternoon class in which aspiring artists (ages 9-12) develop self-confidence, character and collaborative skills through the exploration of the Musical Theatre art form.
Led by professional teaching artists, students are immersed in a singing, acting and dancing creative process through the rehearsal of a musical number and scene from a Broadway show. Theatre games, improvisational activities and role-playing add energy and fun to the experience.

What to Expect in Class

During our eight Saturdays together, students will a focus on “process” over “performance” as they explore the fundamentals of Musical Theatre:
Acting: Character development through creativity and context clues.
Choreography: Storytelling through movement exploration and foundational dance pillars.
Music: Introduction to sight reading with a focus on ensemble singing and vocal dynamics.
Staging: Learn how to take direction, blocking notes, and apply feedback.
Our final day of the program is an “open class” where parents and guardians are invited to peek inside the rehearsal process by observing the students and instructors in the studio, followed by a Q&A with the creative team.

Who to Expect in Class
A Broadway Workshop student is…
a child who LOVES musicals and is excited to absorb all they can about theatrical storytelling. While no prior theatre experience is required, this class is highly collaborative and rooted in the performing arts, so students should be very comfortable interacting with others as well as communicating in front of a group.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Do students need to have previous Musical Theatre training?
A: We welcome students of all experience levels. Our education team will engage each participant with goals for growth wherever they are in their artistic exploration.
Q: Do students need to attend every day?
A: As part of an ensemble, any missed time leaves your child at a disadvantage. Because our time together is so short, this means that your child misses an opportunity to learn choreography, music, or staging. Please support their success by making sure that they don’t miss a minute of workshop classes.
Q: Do you offer scholarships?
A: Full and partial scholarships are available. Please indicate your need in the application.
Q: What is your payment and cancellation policy?
A: Once your application is processed you will receive an email from our Education and Community Engagement department with a link to make your payment. Your payment secures your spot for the Youth Musical Theatre Workshop. The full amount of tuition can be refunded up to two weeks prior to the beginning of your session.
