CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
ACTING THE SONG
Following a vocal diagnostic and repertoire evaluation, students are assigned a new song to develop in class. Students receive guided instruction in utilizing objectives and tactics, emotional recall and analyzing context clues to create authentic and clear storytelling. Emphasis on vocal quality, resonance and articulation will be incorporated as needed. Individual coaching in a group setting supports learning through observation, active listening and constructive feedback. While students are provided with learning tracks to practice at home, class instruction will always include an accompanist to strengthen musicality, confidence and professional audition etiquette.

Audition Cold Reading (Core only)
Students gain actionable tools to prepare them for an important component of the audition process: cold reading. Partnering exercises, worksheets and mock auditions build confidence through preparedness and practice as students grow their skills in this essential audition technique.
Scenes/Duets
(Advanced only)
Students will be assigned a role from a Broadway musical to study character development from a “ground-up” perspective. In scene work and duets students apply foundational training to active performance through the given circumstances of the story. Analysis of relationship dynamics, active listening, and theatrical staging practices strengthen our students’ technical skills. This class requires additional rehearsal “homework” outside of studio time.

Dance & Production Number
Students will practice a variety of musical theatre dance styles taught by multiple instructors/choreographers from Broadway as well as cast from Broadway At Music Circus. Dance classes focus on movement exploration within the Broadway canon, refinement of basic technique pillars, and artistic cohesion and storytelling within a group. In our Production Number class, we layer in vocals with a concentration on ensemble harmonies and dynamics to increase our student’s fundamental skills of this multidisciplinary art form.

Showcase Rehearsal
& Performance
Our nine-week training program culminates in a Showcase performance for friends and family on the iconic UC Davis Health Pavilion stage – home of Broadway At Music Circus. Students will experience a professional tech rehearsal process with state-of-the-art lighting and sound elements designed by our Broadway At Music Circus production staff. While our program is focused on “process” the Showcase gives students an opportunity to see their work celebrated, helping to solidify the techniques and practices they learn in class.
