SALARY: $16.00 – $17.60 per hour

REPORTS TO: Costume Director, Assistant Costume Shop Supervisor

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Assist in the implementation of the costume design under the supervision of the Cutter/Draper, First Hands, and Costume Director and in collaboration with the Costume Designer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sew, either by machine or hand, the costumes as assigned.
  • Manage time effectively on each sewing project.
  • Maintain personal work area, including sewing machinery as necessary to keep work moving effectively.
  • Communicate with other team members concerning problems and possible solutions.
  • Participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of the fitting rooms, workrooms, stock, break areas, and kitchen.
  • Manage personnel safety and uphold workroom safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Costume Director or Assistant Costume Shop Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience in a variety of hand sewing and machine sewing techniques.
  • Ability to skillfully operate a variety of sewing machines including but not limited to single needle industrial, industrial zig-zag, overlock, merrow or serger/overlocker, domestic straight and zig-zag machines.
  • Ability to operate industrial steam iron.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, efficiency, multi-tasking, and ability to prioritize and self-motivate.
  • Ability to take direction and see a task out to completion.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a positive team member.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative attitude. 
  • Remain calm under stress; deescalate when appropriate. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to work long shifts and overtime hours while maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, see, and hear.
  • Ability to hear verbal notes and write them down on paper.
